Electric Smart Car & The 125th Mercedes-Benz Anniversary.

NEWS FLASH!
You were invited and you came! Thank You!

Ogilvie Mercedes-Benz in Ottawa, for two days: September 30th and October 1, was a hive of activities as invited guests and many other customers and well wishers alike thronged the place to help us celebrate and commemorate the 125th anniversary of the invention of the automobile. On January 29th, 1886, Karl Benz filed a patent application in Berlin for his three-wheeled Patent Motorwagen. This first car ultimately laid the foundation for all present day passenger cars, commercial vehicles and buses, and literally changed the world by revolutionizing transportation.

Yes! A replica of the first self propelled car that did not need horses landed at our state of the art show room to a rousing welcome from the mesmerised customers who had made it early to catch a glimpse of this historical moment.

In conjunction with the presentation of the Patent-Motorwagen, customers were presented with the opportunity to test drive the electric smart fortwo. The smart 'plugged in tour' went into full blast and those who ventured out had an experience of a life time. The car was dead quite as I tried to turn on the engine. there was no engine raving at all. The car upon pressing the pedal went into a quite seamless drive as there are no gears at all. The car had a maximum speed of 130kms/h but acceleration was a little slow for my liking with only 40 horse power. However, the good news is that the car that will be launched in September 2012 will have almost double horse power and will be therefore a lot more faster just like the current Smart fortwo at 70 horse power.
