The Altimate Run For Man's Cancers raised $400 000,00 on Fathers' Day

According to CTV Ottawa more than 1,500 runners and walkers braved the forecasted rain to gallantry take part in the 15th annual Ultimate Run for Men’s Cancers in order to raise $400 000.00 for the Ottawa Regional Cancer Foundation. 


It is important to note that many people from very different backgrounds teamed up to raise money for this noble cause. However, Top team fundraisers were highlighted as follows:
  • Top Team: Team Greggybear - $101,000
  • Top Individual Fundraiser: Arnie Vered - $42,633
  • Top Corporate Team: Spence Team - $19,353
  • Top Family Team: Call-Me-Crazy - $4,683
  • Top VIP Team Fundraiser: Senator Vern White - $5,691
As a result, this year’s run brought up an encouraging 15-year total money raised to $3.5 million. This is a welcome development in the fight against man's cancers. The Canadian Cancer Society estimates that more than 23,000 Canadian men will be diagnosed with prostate cancer and more than 13,000 men will diagnosed with colon cancer. These numbers simply have to come down and that"s the reason why this race drew participants from all walks of life like students, seniors, sports stars, sports administrators, business executives, just but to mention a few. 

CTV Ottawa's Katie Griffin.summed this up very well,“You just see the community drive, you just see everybody come together and really put together something that's going to go such a long way for these people who are battling cancer,” said Ottawa native and Florida Panthers defence man Erik Gudbranson, whose brother was diagnosed with cancer eight years ago.

Races were then tailor made to suit this wide cross section of participants:
  • 5 KM Timed Run. This race was won by Sebastian Saville in 16:56.4mins followed by Chris Calley 17:21.6 mins and third was Adam Kourakis 18:13.7mins and yours truly Frankie Meki hobbled to the finishing line in 24:52.5 min in an effort to represent Team Ogilvie Mercedes-Benz well.

A lot of participants were hoping that one day Mercedes-Benz may bring more exciting moments to the races by providing a car for a challenge run. Well, lets wait and see, it happens in Golf, it may also happen here.

Back to the races:
  • Raymond James 10 KM Timed Run. This race was won by Shane Stewart 34:55.1mins and coming in second was Nicolas Pedneault 36:42.0mins followed by Charles Carter 36:42.5 mins
  • Godfrey's Roofing 15 KM Timed Run. This race was won by Mark Davis 59:29.7mins followed by Chris Mamen 1:02:18.9mins and coming in third was Cathy Boonoff
    1:07:51.9mins. Great run from this lady.Thank you Cathy. 
  • 5 KM Walkers
  • Deloitte 5 KM Fitness Walk.
  •  SAS Canada 2 KM Walk for Greggybear
